Where i work and the difficulties encountered

I am currently working as a case worker with the Pathway Development Service and have also worked for the Leeds Personality Disorder Clinical Network previously. My current role requires me to assess individuals who have a diagnosis of PD or characteristics pertaining to in a prison or ward setting, which could be in secure care. The purpose of assessment is to highlight need and make recommendations that identify a care pathway that the individual may need. The difficulty is that the team works across the Yorkshire and Humber region and the rescources available vary greatly between different area's of the region. Therefore what we might recommend and think a person could benefit from may well not be available in the area they are moveing back to.
In terms of the KUF this will hopefully be a vehicle with, which to drive further peoples knowledge, understanding and confidence in PD and offer a level of training and support for those across the regions and particularly within the area's of the region where PD is a struggle.

KUF Benefits

In my role as a caseworker at the PDS, an integral part of the work I do is focused around training teams to increase their capacity and confidence when working with personality disorder. The feedback we have recieved is that there is a huge need for training in this area, and that the material needs to be practically focused and optomistic.
The new KUF material offers participants real life examples of the complex issues that are common place when working with this client group. The VLE offers workers the oppertuntiy to learn about how to best respond to complex problems, but also teaches the reasons and drivers behind the behaviours presented to them.
This is what most helps front line staff to work positively and make sense of the chaos that can often be present in a person's life.
I feel the KUF will be a wonderful learning oppertunity for staff and service users alike, in shaping the future of mental health practice.
