This completed strategy document was launched at the 28th January 2010 annual PDS conference (Pathway Development Service).

This strategy summarises a process which was launched at the annual Yorkshire and the Humber Personality Disorder Conference in January 2009. The strategy is deliberately brief with a strong focus on the first twelve months of action.

It aims to:

• Highlight the critical issues raised in the recent consultation  programme and what they mean for service change
• Set the principles and directions for the development of services to people with personality disorders
• Commit to a series of new initiatives with the expected outcomes across the region in the next twelve months
• Commit to continue this process of building on what needs to be done with further practical commitment for service
improvements in coming years.

The level of change needed is both challenging and achievable. Most of the work will need to done within existing resources and through the development of new networks and partnerships. National and local evidence shows that with cross-agency commitment the current finances and resources can be better invested to meet the needs of the personality disorder populations.

The strategy is in three sections:

1. Background
2. Principles, priorities and action
3. Detailed action plan
